Gareth Bale joined the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and even greats such as Matt Le Tissier and Alan Shearer to have come through Saints' impressive youth system.

The club faced one of its toughest times in 2009 when it was sent into administration and fell to the third tier of English football. When everything looked bleak, businessman Markus Liebherr stepped in to buy Saints and rescued the club from the unthinkable.

With the support of the late Markus Liebherr and his daughter Katharina Liebherr - who took the reigns when her father passed away in 2010 - the club rose through the leagues at an unprecedented rate to return to the Premier League in 2012. In 2017, Chinese businessman, Gao Jisheng also heavily invested in the club to further their ambitions and now owns an 80% share.

To date, Southampton's greatest achievement remains winning the 1976 FA Cup when Saints overcame the odds to record a sensational 1-0 victory over overwhelming favourites Manchester United.
