What is evening primrose oil?
The evening primrose plant was first introduced to Europe in the 17th century where it was soon nicknamed the 'King's cure−all'. In North America however, indigenous tribes had already been using the plant as a food and medicinal crop for hundreds of years. The oil is obtained from the evening primrose Oenothera biennis L., a wild plant native to northern America that bears no relation to the UK's native wild primrose. The beautiful evening primrose flower blooms for a single day, but the oil from its seeds helps you bloom year after year. The plant produces an oil rich in the omega 6 fatty acids GLA (gamma linolenic acid) and LA (linoleic acid).
