What is magnesium?
It's one of the most important minerals found in the body, where it plays a vital role in many functions, from the conversion of food into energy and the health of bones and teeth, to the support of the nervous system and muscle function, including the heart muscle. Many experts refer to magnesium as the 'spark of life'. The HSE advise that adults aged 19 to 64 need 300mg magnesium a day for men and 270mg for women. It is important to follow a healthy, balanced diet and not to rely heavily on processed foods, which contain very little of this essential mineral.
