What is evening primrose oil?
The evening primrose plant was first introduced to Europe in the 17th century where it became known as the 'King's cure-all'. In North America however, indigenous tribes were already using the plant as food and medicine for hundreds of years. The plant pertains to the evening primrose Oenothera biennis L., a wild plant native to northern America that bears no relation to the UK's native wild primrose. The beautiful evening primrose flower blooms for a single day, but its seed oil helps you bloom year after year. The seeds of the evening primrose plant produce an oil rich in the omega 6 fatty acids GLA (gamma linolenic acid) and LA (linoleic acid). LA is an essential fatty acid which the body cannot synthesise and we must obtain through diet.
Why choose Healthspan's Evening Primrose Oil 1,000mg capsules?
We make our capsules using evening primrose oil extracted only by mechanical compression, without the use of heat or solvents, ensuring an optimum purity and a high content of the beneficial omega 6 fatty acids. To reap the benefits of Evening Primrose Oil you must ensure the right levels are taken. That's why our nutritionists advise 1,000mg per day as a cosmetic supplement, and 2,000mg (two capsules) per day over a period of three to four months as ideal. Up to three capsules daily may be taken before the onset of periods.
